How To Apply

APPLICATION:

Interested individuals should forward a complete package of the following information to the attention of HR Specialist of the U.S. Probation office. After a review of your application package, you may be invited for a personal interview.

  • Only those who submit a complete application package will be invited for an interview.
  • Submit your application package at least four (4) to six (6) weeks prior to the start of your semester or quarter of the school year.
  • A letter of interest. In your letter please indicate which office you want to complete your internship, e.g., Fort Wayne, Hammond, or South Bend.
  • Application Form # AO 78
  • Letter of qualification for internship from the appropriate faculty representative from the college or university.
  • A copy of recent transcripts.
  • A recommendation letter from a person outside of family, i.e., a professor, coach, clergy.
  • An essay (no more than 200 words) on why you want to participate in the internship program with the United States Probation office.

PROCESS:

  • Those universities and colleges in the community who are a four year based school, and have programs that are humanity based programs, will be considered for the unpaid internship.
  • Students will be interviewed and selected at least four (4) to six (six) weeks prior to the time their semesters or quarters begin.
  • The internship program requires a minimum of 150 hours to complete.
  • Selection of interns will be conducted by members of the probation office, which may include: Division Internship Coordinator and/or Division Supervising U.S. Probation Officer, a probation officer, Deputy Chief U.S. Probation Officer. Once selected, the recommendation will be submitted to the Chief U.S. Probation Officer for their review and acceptance.

  • To be considered for the internship, all application materials must be received in full prior to the deadline for the specific semester:
